Artist of the Week: Hikari Shimoda

She's a Japanese artist, and her subjects often circle around children. Her style is illustration influenced, along with the use of extremely vibrant colors. Mostly painting in oils and watercolor, her depictions are whimsical and slightly morbid.





I want to try and create a painting/sketch in her likeness. I tend to be afraid when it it comes to using color since that's not exactly my strong suit, which is why I want to tackle something that's similar to her style.

    I love the style. The strong colors and the contrast in the concept (ccc) are extremely effective all together. But personally, I couldn't sit at a canvas for hours with that staring back at me. I'd love to see how yours comes out.

      I agree with you! And so do I. I'm planning on maybe starting something once I come to nearing the end for my portfolio application.
